Two years ago, Ethnosonic sold out its debut at City Playhouse Theatre.
On Saturday, January 16, 2027, the world's only duduk-led jazz fusion
ensemble returns to the same stage — with a new program, new original
material, and the shape of album number two.
A lot has happened
in between. Ethnosonic released its debut album ONE on Dudukhouse
Records, was awarded an Ontario Arts Council grant, headlined Hugh's
Room Live, broke all-time tip records at Drom Taberna (and was invited
back to headline its prime Friday and Saturday slots), and played the
Mississauga World Music Festival two years running. Internationally
acclaimed jazz flutist Bill McBirnie called them "ALL outstanding
musicians." Audiences who have never heard world music in their lives
routinely call it the best concert of theirs.
The seven-piece
Toronto ensemble — Sar Kamler (duduk / vocals), Aslan Gotov (arrangement
/ keys), Viktor Khomenko (bass), Inal Gotov (guitar / Circassian
vocals), Sasha Boychouk (reeds), Val Chitac (accordion), and Adam
Mansfield (drums) — draws its DNA from Armenian, Ukrainian, Circassian,
and Balkan folk traditions and rebuilds them as jazz. Irregular meters.
Vocals in four languages. A 2,000-year-old reed instrument out front.

special guests. Expect a first listen to material from the forthcoming
2027 album. Expect to hear what a duduk can do at the head of a jazz
ensemble — and to leave wondering why no one else in the world is doing
this.
